Comment by Will on May 6, 2012 at 4:37pm Hello! I work with a design nonprofit, currently on a project to invent a game that promotes public social interaction. Ex: a trick elevator that stops unexpectedly and obliges strangers to meet. Get in touch with me if you'd like to contribute in any way, especially if you have any expertise in engineering spaces for safe and meaningful conversation. My research group is currently pooling input before we move on to prototyping, etc. Thanks to all.
Comment by Nicholas on April 30, 2012 at 8:52pm Hey all! Brand new to the community, but really looking to have some fun. I was hoping a few people would be interested in getting together and discussing some plans for a flash mob that I'm thinking about. It's of moderate difficulty, but it shouldn't be anything too over the top. PM me if you're interested, and I'll arrange a time within the next few weeks so we can meet up. I should have the entire routine ready by the time that we meet, so we can figure out exactly what we're doing. Hope to hear back!

I threw up more details in the discussion forum but I want to paste it here too as more people seem to read the wall.

Comment by jacquelyn kohl on March 5, 2012 at 8:31pm for anyone who's interested in adding Flash Mob America to your list of flash mob resources, here's the URL to their website where you can sign up to be on their mailing list --- http://www.flashmobamerica.com/who-we-are/
OR, go to their facebook page to sign up, at http://www.facebook.com/flashmobfanpage and click on "JOIN THE FUN."
they don't do a lot in Chicago, but, like i said in Friday's posting, they did their first one in july 2011 and said they'd be doing more here. now they are already back for this second event. i think their SOP is to start w/ a corps of professional, or at least experienced/trained, dancers for the more complex moves, who are then gradually joined by regular people (like me, us) doing an easier routine. not only do they send out a training video in advance so that we can learn the steps at home, but then, on the day of the flash mob (at least for the 2 they've done here so far) they provide training/ rehearsal for a few hours prior to the event. my point is that you needn't be intimidated --- i'm 60 yrs old and NOT any kind of dancer, but i was able to participate in july. that was my first (& only, so far) flash mob & it was a great experience! i'm unable to take part in tomorrow's event, but i'll be anxious to watch the video of it when it's posted on youtube....
Comment by jacquelyn kohl on March 2, 2012 at 2:05pm Flash Mob America is having a multi-city flash mob this coming tuesday, but i'm pretty sure it's too late to participate. this is the second time they've come to chicago in the past 7 months -- did one in union station last july and now this. if you register on their website, they'll notify you of upcoming flash mobs and you can get involved. they're VERY well-organized and it's easy to get involved. check out flashmobfanpage on facebook to join. (maybe you can even get in on tuesday's event.) good luck!
Comment by Yazmin B on March 2, 2012 at 1:38pm Hey all!! I am a newbie and on Spring Break, what a combination!! Anything upcoming in the works? I am pretty excited to get involved...signed "so new to this"
Comment by Dennis Dippary on February 22, 2012 at 11:17pm Just wondering if anyone would be interested in helping out a group of us running a mile. My Fitness program is reaching its midpoint on Saturday, and we have to run a mile. I just thought it would be so cool, and motivational to have a bunch of people cheering us on.
This is nothing official, but here are the details:
Farrell's eXtreme Bodyshaping in Lincoln Park
Located on Blackhawk Street in the northwest corner of the REI/British School building. We will be running around the field directly across Halsted from our building sometime between 8am and 9am. Unfortunately I can't be more specific about the time. We have some tests to do indoors and then we are going outside.
The 8 drops off at the corner of Halsted and Blackhawk, and the North & Clybourn stop on the Redline is a few blocks north of the location.
If anyone is interested in doing this, it would be so awesome!
