We Cause Scenes

Alright, so the idea of this was inspired by the awesomenesses that is The Muppet Show and Avenue Q.

The idea here is to make people laugh, feel uncomfortable, and think everyone around them is crazy just for a little bit.

This is how this will work:

At 2:00pm on January 16th (you'll understand the reasoning for this happening three months from now in a minute) all of the improv-ers will meet at the Rosemont Blue Line station. If possible, dressed in some kind of business/casual dress attire. On their right or left hand (whichever is more comfortable for mouth movement) they will wear a puppet. We will board the train at around 2:15, after boarding the train, each person (and puppet) will do whatever it is people waiting on a train do; reading a book, chatting on the phone, etc.

Make sure that your puppet is doing something different than you.

Then at around 2:30 pm, the puppets will say something rude and engage in an argument with their puppeteer. Eventually, the argument will end in the puppet angrily exclaiming that "I didn't want to come anyways! or "Why did you have to drag me along!", etc. etc. etc.. The puppeteer with say something along the lines of "Fine! You don't have to go!" And angrily cram the puppet into the backpack and continue with their business.

The idea here is to get as many people arguing with their puppets (and other people's puppets) at the same time. We need at least 50 people for this to work right. The more peopl the better.

The reasoning for this being set in January is so that people can aquire a puppet of sorts. Sock puppts, muppets, hand puppets, rod puppets, any puppet that has a mouth is welcome.

Some good sites for making puppets are:

If anyone has any ways to modify this idea make it more awkward or funnier or whatever, please feel free to do so. I thought it sounded like a pretty fun/unique idea to cause a bit of a fun commotion, thought I'd share...

DATE CHANGE: Saturday January 16th. So, get your puppets and whatnot and invite whoever you know... this has to be BIG!

UPDATE: I'm going to create a Facebook event for this so I can get an actual estimated number on who's going and whatnot. We'll need to find a place to meetup before we head for the train. The goal here is for all people involved to get onto one train car. If there are enough people willing to participate, then we'll worry about dividing up.

UPDATE: I may have to change the date to the following Saturday, not sure yet. Also, reread the plan some changes have been made so things run a little more smoothly.

Oh my gosh! I wish that I was going to be here for this :( Let me know how it goes! I'm actually a member of B.Love Improv in Philly, but I'm in Chicago for a few weeks, so I figured I'd see if you guys were up to anything epic that I could get in on. ^_^

If this works out well, let me know! You can make it a yearly event, and Philly will TOTALLY do it with you. ^_~

Sounds awesome I know a puppeteer (I'm pretty sure theres a fancy name for them but I'm forgetting it) who can loan me a puppet but definitely agree weekends are better.
