The Urban Prankster Network

We Cause Scenes

The Date: Monday 13 July 2009
The Time: 8.00pm to 9.00pm
The Place: Trafalgar Square, London
Don't forget: Bring an inflatable banana!

Ok, my challenge to all London (and close by!) Urban Pranksters is to "Go Banana's" pm on the 13 July!

I have been awarded a place on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square as part of Anthony Gormley's "One & Other" Project! having applied for it with no expectation of getting a place (and at such a reasonable time!), I had not planned what to do 'on' the Plinth. This is where I'm hoping for a good London Urban Prankster turnout!!

My stint starts at 8pm and finishes at 9pm. What I'm hoping is that as many of you as possible are able to attend to do a number of Improv events around the Square. How about something along the lines of:

8pm to 8.10pm - just gather in the square (give me a wave on the plinth if you want!) but nothing too organised to start with

8.25pm - reveal your (inflatable) banana en mass wherever you happen to be in the square and move towards the plinth

8.30pm - a banana (pillow) fight [soft bananas are better in case they explode and they probably hurt if hard!!) around the base of the plinth. There are security guys around so keep an eye on them as well

8.55pm - Gather round the fourth plinth and start a countdown to 9pm

9.00pm - disperse! and Thank YOU!

The One & Other Project is being filmed (24/7) by Sky Arts and will be on the website and there will be a weekly programme shown on the SkyArts channel.

I'll be there - with my inflatable banana! - on the 13th.... I hope you will be too!!!

PS There should also be a silent disco gathering on the steps of the National Gallery from 7.30pm if you wish to bring your i-Pods etc.

Well, despite losing my banana when a gust of breeze blew it off the plinth, an excellent Gorilla Silent Disco was held at the base of the Plinth whilst I was on top!

I forgot to count the number of participants but it was at least 12 to 15

The webcast of the event HERE

Just spotted this (Metro and various other newspapers.....)

The Lying Down Game

So at some point in my hour on the plinth I will try to remember to do this......

Hopefully someone on the ground (Joel, are you free?) will lead the improv activity.....

Well having watched some of the first Plinther's, I think there is definitely scope for improv to happen around the plinth - but positioning needs to be good.

The webcam on the One and Other website shows the terrace behind the plinth well, and the area below the plinth towards the fountains.

Perhaps also a chain of people around the base of the plinth 'hugging' it as part of the countdown to 9 pm? Although you may get moved as the cherry picker moves in to swap me over with the next person....

Update: There WILL be a silent disco from 8pm to 9pm. Participants will be meeting from 7.30pm outside the National Gallery (Trafalgar Square entrance) ..... bring an inflatable banana if you can find one!

I'm completely in but i think what you need is focus.
inflatable bannanas are not the most easy thing to come by, also, one overriding prank that everyone agrees with is gonna work better than a load of smaller ones. a little meeting before hand wouldn't hurt either, any volunteers?

perhaps before the banana fight we could all walk around around with banana phones like those people did in san diego. Or the guy on the plinth could direct different types of flash mobs that we keep switching to throughout the hour. So for gun-hand he holds his hands like a gun, for freeze he poses, we could also all 'worship' him, if we all bring umbrellas we could a 300 spartan thing, basically we could have like a flash mob extravaganza.

I'll probably be concentrating on not falling off the plinth laughing at the crazy antics below me!!

Oh, and you may not be able to see the shape of my hands that easily.... but whatever, I hope it will be a great laugh and, you never know, LUUP Birdwatching society may well get visibility on Sky Arts!

yes, this sounds fun. congrats on getting the plinth, at least your doing something worthwhile with it.

Not sure anyone will be doing anything worthwhile - but I have to admit I got told I had the Plinth for an hour and immediately thought "hell [or something like that], now what do I do?!?" :o)
