We Cause Scenes

Hey guys. I'm pretty new to IE, but I had a new idea. This might have been done before. Essentially, the idea is that we would all meet up in a public place and create an outdoor library. There would be tables for reading and shelves of books. The fun part would be that we would "SHH" the public if they tried to talk or make noise around us. It would definitely have to be in an area in which the city would allow it. It's just and idea and would take some prep work, but I wanted to know what you guys thought.

Thanks,
Tyler

yo im down! third street promenade of hollywood boulevard on friday nights.. all pretty packed.. anyone wanna start something in middle of a 4th of july fair?!

We've done so many missions on 3rd street, we need to either think outside of that box or rename it GuerillaMonica. Also, I'll say it again since nobody is listening: BOOKS ARE TOO FREAKING HEAVY - this is not a practical mission!

When we did the lemonade stand, we set it up SO fast. We could totally construct a library really fast. Four shelves walk up from different directions and are all plopped down at the same time. Maybe a rug.

We could do it at a Farmer's Market, or a weekend festival, or at night near some clubs (we'd need lights), and we could have a few librarians invite people in.

Ummmmmmm.... I second Tuttle's argument. Although the lemonade stand did go up surprisingly easy, it was thanks to a LOT of help from the people at the Building Session, and a lot of work on my end putting it all ready-to-go in my little RAV4. I can't even imagine trying to haul books - too many little parts - and not to mention how to drive bookshelves (which we'd have to make or buy) around. Let's lean towards the less prop-heavy missions: Think how fun Gettypede, Crosswalk, and some of the IE missions like Abercrombie&Fitch and Flashmobs are: ya just show up, no stress of bringing things (and tearing down afterwards!)

Waldman, Desai, you're off the hook. Mahdroo, you bring all the freaking books and then tell me you think it's a good idea.

We should totally do this but the idea is to make a scene, so we need to do this in a semi-crowded area. How about the promenade (in Santa Monica)? We'll get tons of attention but I don't know how we can get people to be quiet there...

Yeah, you and Waldman bring the books.

If we set the library in Griffith Park or another park with picnic tables we could use that furniture. Some readers would stand and read or just browse. Then, if each agent brought two paperbacks (one to read and one for the stacks) it might work. Still need some shelves or a trolly to arrange the books on though. Baskets? Wicker shelves? Cardboard? This prank appeals to me very much, especially shushing the public.

the only thing Im concerned about with this prank is, what if there is no public? I have a feeling the only public attention we'll get are joggers and families having picnics (assuming this would be held on a weekend). Even then, bystanders would assume there's a "reading in the park" event happening.

so, as far as 'shock/surprise' factor goes......it's a flat note, my friends.

location is everything!

I don't think it's practical mainly because books are so damn heavy, shelves, desks, etc. If you want to tweak it a bit, we could set up a receptionist desk in a park and when people try to pass by we ask if they have an appointment and please sign in and wait for your name to be called. Need more roles for more agents though.

That sounds like fun!
