Join the NYC Mailing list

To get involved in New York City, join the NYC Mailing List. We recruit via that mailing list for all our large-scale missions.

This group should be used for meeting each other and brainstorming ideas to suggest to us.

The Improv Everywhere global site is for people to organize their own missions in their own hometowns outside of New York. I really don't want people using it to organize missions in New York City. Frankly, that's our turf. It's a free country and I can't stop you from doing it, but we really don't want to see other groups copying us here in NYC. It will be too confusing for people, and they won't understand the difference between "Improv Everywhere" and a group of people "inspired by Improv Everywhere." If someone got arrested in Times Square and it made the news, the story is going to be Improv Everywhere gets in trouble, not "a group inspired by Improv Everywhere" gets in trouble, and I can't be taking responsibility for stuff I'm not a part of. Improv Everywhere in New York is just me, my friends, and the mailing list of volunteers.

For those of you who don't live in NYC exactly, feel free to organize Long Island, New Jersey, or Westchester (etc) events. I just don't want to see things happening in NYC under our name (or things that are exactly the type of thing we do) without our involvement. We've been doing this for 7 years now and have built up a huge group of dedicated agents and a huge reputation. It's not good for us for random people to start doing missions here in New York. The media will not understand the difference and it will water everything down.

I invite everyone to join the New York Agents list by signing up on the site. We have several missions a year that are open to EVERYONE so there is always opportunity to get involved.

I know it's confusing having a NYC group here on this site, but the primary purpose I had envisioned for it was for people to be able to meet each other and suggest ideas for us to do.

I know the best prank ever. This is so good. About 150 agents should get together at a local mall and gather around in the center, pretending to be waiting to see a big celebrity, like Mariah Care... Continue

Video of Frozen Grand Central: SVU

Here is the clip of last night’s Law & Order: SVU scene that fictionalized our Frozen Grand Central mission. I don’t know why we went to all the trouble to synchronize our watches when we did the original. It’s so much easier to just have Mo Rocca stand on a stepladder and yell, “No sheep!” [...]

Frozen Grand Central: SVU

We didn’t see it, but we’ve received about 50 emails this evening about tonight’s episode of Law & Order: SVU. It apparently centered around a group of New Yorkers who stage massive public events. The leader of said group was played by Robin Williams. (still from the episode) There was footage of the group [...]

Global Roundup

There has been lots of activity on our Improv Everywhere Global site the past few weeks. The Mexico City group Desordinarios staged a mission called “Train Rain.” Around twenty agents rode Mexico City’s metro wearing rain gear and holding umbrellas. Other recent missions: **Boston SOS held a protest to protest protesting. **Plan B in Minnesota [...]

Map of World Freeze Events

Interactive Map of Freeze Events The “freeze” craze started by our Frozen Grand Central mission has now reached 70 cities in 34 countries and 6 continents (come on Antarctica, get with the program!) Agent Piskvor from Prague made a very cool map showing the locations of all the freeze missions. It’s a Google Map, [...]

Best Game Ever: Swedish Soccer Edition

In an event similar to our Best Game Ever, several hundred people showed up to cheer on a random soccer team in Sweden. This is exciting. I live in FL, but I'll be interning in NYC (with Sesame Street!) from June to August. I'm so glad I found something to do in the meantime.

I would love to be a part of the next prank! I have been working in the film/tv industry for 8 years and would love to put my talent to work for you guys.

It might even be fun to prank one of the popular television shows here in the city. Its easy to find out who is shooting where because permits are posted everywhere and they are posted 48 hours in advance so they can hold parking!
