To get involved in New York City, join the NYC Mailing List. We recruit via that mailing list for all our large-scale missions.
This group should be used for meeting each other and brainstorming ideas to suggest to us.
The Improv Everywhere global site is for people to organize their own missions in their own hometowns outside of New York. I really don't want people using it to organize missions in New York City. Frankly, that's our turf. It's a free country and I can't stop you from doing it, but we really don't want to see other groups copying us here in NYC. It will be too confusing for people, and they won't understand the difference between "Improv Everywhere" and a group of people "inspired by Improv Everywhere." If someone got arrested in Times Square and it made the news, the story is going to be Improv Everywhere gets in trouble, not "a group inspired by Improv Everywhere" gets in trouble, and I can't be taking responsibility for stuff I'm not a part of. Improv Everywhere in New York is just me, my friends, and the mailing list of volunteers.
For those of you who don't live in NYC exactly, feel free to organize Long Island, New Jersey, or Westchester (etc) events. I just don't want to see things happening in NYC under our name (or things that are exactly the type of thing we do) without our involvement. We've been doing this for 7 years now and have built up a huge group of dedicated agents and a huge reputation. It's not good for us for random people to start doing missions here in New York. The media will not understand the difference and it will water everything down.
I invite everyone to join the New York Agents list by signing up on the site. We have several missions a year that are open to EVERYONE so there is always opportunity to get involved.

i know it says this group is for your own awesome missions, but i'll be coming to NY in august/september and as an organizer of bi-weekly Mobile Clubbing (silent disco) as well as monthly Free Hugs for the last 10 months, would love to try one or both while in town, just to have some fun but also to see and experience the "vibe" in your town in comparison to here, as Vienna is an EXTREMELY difficult city to motivate (even for pillow fights!).
Both of these types of events are nothing new and i DEFINITELY would NOT use the IE name in association, i would just like to use the site to gather some people together for a little dance party and/or hugging action.
Or should i go somewhere else to do this?
