The Wrong Lineup

The rumours of a new Star Trek movie coming out this year are getting more frequent and marketing-like, so I'm actually inclined to believe that it's actually going to happen this time. That probably means big lineups, at least at high-profile theatres like the Para^H^H^H^HScotiaBank Theatre on Burrard.

Now, in my experience, Star Trek fans and Star Wars fans don't talk to each other. I haven't seen any actual hostility or anything, but people who get passionate about one franchise tend to pretty much ignore the other, so therefore:

We get up a group wearing the best costumes we can pull together, and (unlike way too many fans) actually use group members who bear some physical resemblance to the character whose costume they're wearing. With the help of the local costuming groups, we should be able to pull off something pretty impressive. Except...

The costume that the group wears will all be Star Wars costumes, not Star Trek costumes, but they join the lineup to see the new Star Trek movie, just to see how the Trekkies/ers react.

Or, to make it even more twisted, plant a stooge in the lineup, wearing the lamest Star Trek costume we can come up with. (Say, for example, he's trying to be Spock, except that he's short, fat, and swarthy instead of tall, thin, and pale like Leonard Nimoy. And the Starfleet logo on his shirt is made out of duct tape instead of an embroidered patch, and his boots are too short and have laces, and the shirt is the wrong colour (and is actually a sweater), and on and on like that.) We have the Star Wars group join the stooge, who goes, "Oh, man, you guys are really embarrassing. I can't take you anywhere. This is a Star Trek movie. Those costume are Star Wars. And they all respond with things like "Oh, I *love* Star Trek! 'A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away." And on and on like that. In other words, their costumes are a hundred times better than the stooge (and, hopefully, better than anybody else in line, either), but they act as if they have no clue that there's even a difference between the two franchises.

Oh, so many different things can be done with this idea. I've actually done things like this before, where you dress up like Harry Potter for Lord of the Rings, etc. But if we could get it done really well and with a good number of people this could be really effective. This is my favourite idea so far.

Thanks!

(My personal favourite is the Roller Coaster Team, but basically, I'm just throwing out a bunch of ideas to try to get some brainstorming going on, so we can make something happen.)

Or how about getting a group of people to line-up in costume a couple hours before the opening of a movie that does not require nor warrant people lining up to see it?

Everyone dressing up as their best Richard Gere, etcetera?
