Downtown -- Mass Event at Comic-Con 2008?

So, everyone knows about Comic-Con International happening down in the convention center July 23-27 (http://comic-con.org/cci/)

Unfortunately you do have to pay to get into the Dealer's Hall, which was where I was thinking of staging this off anyway, so unless you're a prepaid member for Comic-Con (or you're volunteering for them the day we put this on) there won't be many there.

So, I was thinking of ideas for Comic-Con, just as maybe a one-day or two-day thing. That place is massive, and we could really get some takers that might want to join our group, so why not stage something there?

I was just thinking of a five-minute Freeze session or something, but anyone got any ideas?

Since Scene Diego has already done a Freeze out at Horton Plaza, what about doing like ImprovEverywhere did at Home Depot (http://youtube.com/watch?v=29NLOhBttxA) and shop around the booths in slow-motion for five minutes before then walking normally for five minutes, then freeze completely for another five minutes?

I think the 5 minute thing is good. Example: Everybody would be in regular clothes and have nothing on that is related to comic con. Have everyone put a superhero/comic character mask on and then freeze for 5 mintues. When the 5 minutes is up everybody walks and then takes off the mask. It would have to be in a certain spot because that place is huge!

yay or nay?!

Dress like we went to the wrong thing

It would be hard to do a dress up prank at comicon, cause everyone is dressed up already. The only thing that would stand out is suits and ties, or formal wear, and that wouldn't stand out much. Nothing is unusual at a comicon.

actually i think formal wear (especially if we get enough girls involved) might work. Suits and ties could just mean they are people here for the professional appeal (comic con is a good place to get a job... the big companies usually have portfolio reviews there)

But if the boys were decked out in tuxes and girls in prom dresses we'd get looks... but then what??

Maybe something REALLY out of the ordinary, like having our agents (all in suits an ties) start a mombo line. We could have some poeple dress up in suits, and they would start the dance, then have a few agents that are NOT in suits join in as if they were following the lead of the agents in suits. This would encourage other people to join as well (which probably won't be hard) and soon we could create a giant mombo line at comicon!! It would be funny and something no one would expect.

we can dress up like greasers for guys and the 50's poodle skirts for girls something like that. Like what nyssa M wrote, I agree. Hi all I'm new :)

NO MORE FREEZES! lol

It was a great idea - but it has now been done 1,000 times around the world. We did one freeze as our first mission - and only because it was part of a "Global Freeze." I don't mean to be rude or shoot down your idea - I just think we are way more capable of coming up with original ideas.

SceneDiego is about being creative, and original. We are always looking for new ideas, but we want them to be something that hasn't been done before.

How about something quasi-educational? What could be more unusual at a place like comic-con than something where people learn something? I

I'm thinking something like what you would see at an elementary school assembly or something. Like everyone dresses up as a different state and forms a map of the US.

Or everyone dresses up as planets.(maybe just wearing appropriately colored t-shirts or outfits with the name of their planet printed or pinned on it) and performs an incredibly slow-moving model of the solar system.

In this scenario, periodically cosmic events could occur, like when the moon passes between the sun and the earth, everyone puts on sunglasses and oohs and ahhs for several minutes(eclipse). Or maybe someone designated as a comet could be standing off to the side, eventually passing through the system, maybe even colliding with Jupiter (like the Shoemaker-Levy 9). The end could be when the Sun gets upset and starts yelling at the other planets and pushes them away (supernova). This would work better if the Sun were made of a cluster of people who then could expand outward slowly as we reach the conclusion.

Any extra agents could be asteroids, moons, or just spectators drawing extra attention to it. If someone has a megaphone or something, they could even narrate the events, presenting it like something you would see at a museum or a planetarium.

Actually this would be good to do someplace like out at the park next to Balboa, or someplace where many people could go for free, but I don't think there will be enough agents that can get into Comicon for this. Tickets were sold out to long ago.
