We Cause Scenes

The paparazzi's paparazzi

I live in beverly hills and of course, one day walking along i see 10 guys crowded arounda window of a store each with a foot long lens. who was in there? im not sure but it was bound to be someone famous. another time (i was informed of this from my mom) someone ran halfway across the street in the midst of oncomming traffic to grab someones photo who was in a car. furthermore, they even have a website that tracks where celebs go. my mission: we find out where a celeb will be one day and with a group of agents(the more the better 10+ would do but if we can get a group of 30-50+ itd be that much better) we stick around and wait for the paparazzi to show up and when they do....have few people run over them with a camera and microphone and start questioning them shoving tape recorders in their face while another group follows taking pictures of them wherever they go. pretty much follow them the whole day so they can see what its like to be on the other end. maybe even create our own newspaper and mail it to them with articles pictures from the day ....criticism and any ideas/feedback would be great please let me know what you think about this idea

The only problem I have with this mission is that we are targeting a specific group of people and we tend to stay away from that...

I think it's established that finding actual paparazzi or a real celebrity is not at all practical and that we do it where we have total control over the situation. I like the "No One's a Celebrity" version as well as the "Agent Celebrity" version.

I noticed the following on the Improv Everywhere site.
Since, apparently, an agent posing as a fake celebrity is a common mission idea, I think that the idea of paparazzi focusing on nothing and no one in particular is the more unique version of this type of mission.
Anyway, this is what it said on their website, in their FAQ section. It's kind of funny how they don't mention the freeze:

Are there any ideas you get all the time?
Yes. Here are a few ideas that we have heard many, many times:

- Get a bunch of people to stand behind someone and pretend they are the Verizon “network,” like in those commercials.
- Recreate that “banned xbox” commercial from YouTube where people use their fingers as guns.
- Get a bunch of people to stare up at the sky and pretend like they are looking at something amazing.
- Act like a stranger (or an agent) is someone important by putting secret service agents all around him.
- Act like a stranger (or an agent) is famous and have a fake paparazzi mob him.
- Do something involving zombies and/or the Thriller dance.
- Have tons of people go into a store and buy the exact same thing. (Or request an item that doesn’t exist. Or everyone pay in pennies. Or order the same small item in a fast food chain.)

Good find. I worked with this one guy who was the spitting image twin clone of freakin Ethan Hawk. I wish I still knew him, because we could have a lot of fun with him. I knew another guy who looked just like Fred Durst. "Hey everybody, look! Ethan Hawk and Fred Durst are in a fight!"

I think this would be fun. Maybe we can get Kathy Griffin (She loves the spotlight and joking around). And do it at a Mc Donald’s (lots of windows)? Plus it would be a one up on our “east coast” team (we got a D-List Celebrity!).

So then we're just fake paparazzi. I thought the point of it was that it was just a regular person that we trick the public into thinking is a celebrity. Don't get me wrong, I love KG just like the next guy, but the point of the mission is dead. The glory of having a tourist ask a "celebrity" agent for a photo and/or autograph is gone.

It would be awesome to have a gallery of photographers who were trying to get you! But as for this mission, unless someone out there knows a celebrity who is willing to participate, good luck just finding one. I know a few, but they aren't stalked all the time. This is why I think we have a target agent be the celeb. Think of how funny it would be if the agent is asked for autographs from tourists who have no idea who he/she is. They would wonder forever.

The other thing it would be cool for us to do is take a poll to find out which one of us nearly 1,000 agents even remotely resembles a celeb and go from there.

Do they have to resemble a celeb? It'd probably be funny to see how many people got confused over just who this person that everyone is so interested in is. I mean, they'd all be turning to each other to figure it out, ahaha.

it would be funny if we just crowded one person(a stranger) and started acting star struck and asking for their autograph.

Yeah, as long as they don't freak out. I used to point out strangers to my GF and claim they were celebs and I was always really star struck. It was fun. She would be tricked for like a millisecond.

No, but I think we should try it both ways. And a third way would be choosing a non-agent to photograph and ask for autographs.
